Apple's mobile me is going to be free from next month.

Creativity | 2011. 3. 20. 14:05 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

Over the last few weeks we’ve heard rumours that Apple would be dropping the price of MobileMe from $99 (for a 1 year subscription) to $0. We expected this to be announced during an upcoming Apple media event.

The folks at iLounge have just confirmed the rumours are true, stating that the newest version of MobileMe is slated to launch next month and they say it will be completely free. iLounge also claims that MobileMe will be getting some major changes.

Picture-211.png

To accommodate the new changes iLounge said Apple will continue to provide extended support for subscribers that have recently purchased MobileMe (for at least for 1 year). iLounge said they received the news from a trusted source who works for a major educational institution and had noticed the school’s supplier wasn’t offering the current version of MobileMe and said that Apple is encouraging new students to grab the 60 day trial.

5 design trends in 2011

Creativity | 2010. 11. 23. 06:23 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

This post originally appeared on the American Express OPEN Forum, where Mashable

regularly contributes articles about leveraging social media and technology in small business.

In the past 12 months, we’ve seen a lot of changes in the world of web design. Growing popularity in the mobile device space — including smartphones and tablets like the iPad — have refined the way many users access and interact with content.

Likewise, the formal adoption of web standards like HTML5, web fonts and CSS3 by browser makers means that more and more users are now able to take advantage of the latest and greatest features on the web.

1. Lose the Flash

Regardless of where you stand in the war over Flash, the fact remains that more and more sites and web developers are moving away from Flash-only solutions for video, animation and navigation.

Flash still excels when it comes to building fully interactive designs and Rich Interactive Applications (RIAs), but for small business owners who aren’t showcasing or providing that sort of experience, trading Flash for HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3 might just make more sense.

2. Web Fonts

Typography is an important — I would argue crucial — component of any web design. Historically, customizing the typography you use on a website has been a complicated and headache-inducing process. As a result, most designers were reduced to either using the small selection of web-safe fonts or using workarounds like text images or Flash as text replacements.

3. Mobile Compatible/Optimized Sites

More and more websites — big and small — are taking the time to make their sites small screen friendly. Having a mobile compatible or mobile optimized website means that not only will your site load faster over cellular data connections but that content will be better formatted for the screens of smaller devices, making it easier to access and understand.

4. Inspired By Tumblr

The popular microblogging platform Tumblr (Tumblr) is a great way to quickly and easily post updates, share content and garner direct visitor feedback. Tumblr has become a really popular platform and more and more small businesses are using it for their own company blogs or sites.

5. Touches of the Future: HTML5 and CSS3

As I stated in the introduction, it can be difficult for small businesses that aren’t in a design-related field to adopt many of the cutting-edge web design trends for fear of shutting out parts of their potential audience.

Augmented World and Digital Games

Creativity | 2010. 11. 23. 02:10 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

The Department of Virtual Worlds / Digital Games is concerned with technologies,

systems and occurrences of virtual and augmented realities (VR/AR/MR) as well as the

individual manifestations of digital games (serious games, pervasive games, online games,

mobile games, etc.). Their production, content and usage/adoption in particular with regard

to their application-relevant potential are investigated and new applications are developed

in an interdisciplinary (technology and social science based) approach.

Department Virtual Worlds / Digital Games

Thematic Topics

Mobile Mixed Reality: The increasing availability of powerful mobile devices offers new opportunities for extending the users’ real environment by virtual content or even replacing it entirely. We research the necessary technologies as well as the effects of their usage.
Augmented Reality (AR) technologies: we research technologies simplifying and extending the usage of AR. This includes computer vision based interaction techniques and markup languages for AR
Game-based learning: We focus on the technological challenges and the social analysis of the opportunities and impact of serious games e.g. for formal and informal knowledge transfer or for training purposes.

Virtual worlds / Virtual Reality (VR): How can we develop virtual worlds and VR (as its corresponding interaction metaphor) for new user groups and novel application areas? How can we overcome existing media breaks when using VR?

Augmented Reality vs. Diminished Reality

Creativity | 2010. 11. 23. 02:04 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

Augmented reality adds a layer of information with 3D rendered imagery into

the real world, on the other hand, there is another definition opposite to

augmented reality, called Diminished reality. Here you can get some ideas

about Augmented Reality and Diminished Reality.

The Pleasure and Danger of Augmented Reality

Eye
Smart phones. One can’t imagine life without them.  Ah, the endless convenience: looking up a restaurant on Yelp, finding out a movie’s rating on Rotten Tomatoes, seeing that cute guy’s profile on Facebook.
Augmented reality adds a layer of information on top of everything in front of your eyes. How? By making you wear glasses that have tiny video cameras in them. These cameras “see” the world on your behalf and livestream it to the inside of your glasses. You feel like you’re watching the world through transparent glasses, but in fact you’re seeing a movie of the scene in front of your eyes.
One can immediately see the value of augmented content. Just imagine being a tourist in Paris and having a quick history of the Eiffel Tower displayed next to it. You’d never need holiday guidebooks like Lonely Planet again!
Augmented reality adds content to a live streaming video, but it could just as easily remove content as well.

your smart phone you can share, edit documents in Google Docs.

Google Docs Editing Goes Mobile

Google (Google) announced Wednesday morning that it has begun rolling out mobile editing for Google Docs (Google Docs). The update isn’t yet available for everyone, but it should be available to all over the next few days.

To date, only Google Docs spreadsheets have supported mobile editing. When the the update hits, all Google Docs documents will be editable on devices running Android (Android) 2.2 (and higher) and iOS 3.0+.

We’ve not been able to test it out yet, but Google has released a little video — as seen above — showcasing the new mobile editing capabilities of Google Docs.
