Apple's air-expelling keyboard system

Creativity | 2011. 5. 13. 01:05 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

A new patent application published by the US Patent and Trademark Office gives us another thought-provoking insight into Apple’s thinking behind sci-fi keyboard designs. Granted, only a fraction of their patents see the light of day. Moreover, those that don’t often file is vague, too broad conceptual ideas. Nevertheless, this one’s interesting on several levels.  Apple wants you to feel the keys before you hit them. The document entitled “Input Devices and Methods of Operation” proposes the use of air vents on keys (you read that right) coupled with a bunch of proximity sensors like the one inside your iPhone that prevents spray input from your face.

Apple-patent-20110107958-finger-touching-key.jpg

In some systems, feedback is provided before actual contact with the key expelling air from the input device proximate the key when user selection is imminent. In other examples, the tactile sensation results from automatic movement of the key in response to detected user selection of the key.

Another embodiment calls for a pneumatic system designed to pull the key away from you by “advancing the selected key in a direction of actuation in response to detecting user selection”. What do you make of this?

Apple-patent-20110107958-pneumatic-system.jpg

The described concept is pretty much useless in virtual keyboards where glass prevents air expelling. However, such a design could come in handy for really tiny keyboards where the individual keys are too close together, meaning one is unable to distinguish between the individual keys just by touching them with one’s finger. How small a keyboard, you ask? Really small – think iPhone small. Any suggestions? Meet us in comments. Apple credited this keyboard concept to engineers Aleksandar Pance, Michael Sinclair and Brett Bilbrey.

Capster_Mac Application to show caps lock on/off

Creativity | 2011. 4. 23. 20:42 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

remotesnap000052.jpg

capster-188-234551.png

Original Post (English)

CAPS Warn is a menu-bar utility that displays a bright-red icon and sounds an alert whenever caps lock is enabled. But if you’re already using the excellent Growl notification system, a simpler—but just as effective—option is Capster (download link).

Launch Capster—it can run invisibly as a background-only application—and if you press the caps-lock key, intentionally or not, Capster pops up a Growl notification letting you know. Disable caps lock, and you get a Growl confirmation of that, too.

Because it uses Growl, you can customize Capster’s alerts using Growl’s System Preferences pane. For example, you can choose a different Growl display style and onscreen position for your Capster alerts than for other Growl notifications. You can also choose separate notification options (display style, priority, and alert sound) for when you enable caps lock and when you disable it—on my Mac, the caps-lock-on alert uses High priority (which means it pulses red) and an audible alert, while the caps-lock-off alert uses Normal priority and doesn’t make a sound.

Capster’s only other settings let you choose whether or not the utility displays a systemwide menu; and, if not, which keyboard shortcut you need to press to access these settings. If you choose to display the menu, you get several options for its menu-bar icon; whichever one you choose, the menu icon works much like CAPS Warn, changing its appearance whenever caps lock is enabled.

Because it relies on Growl for notifications, Capster doesn’t have some of the unique options of CAPS Warn, such as the capability to warn you whenever you’ve typed more than a set number of capital letters in a row—say, if you typed them using the Shift key instead of caps lock. (These days, CAPS Warn can also notify you when other modifier keys are pressed.) I also found what appears to be a minor bug in Capster: If caps lock is enabled, pressing Shift produces the Caps Lock On alert. But Capster works well, and if you’re already using Growl, Capster is a simple and easy way to get a convenient and popular feature.

Multifunctional touch screen Mac is Apple's Next?

Creativity | 2011. 4. 1. 04:28 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

애플이 Mac OS를 기초로 하여 iOS와 iPad를 탄생시켰고 이제는 'Back to the Basic'이라는 콘셉트로 iOS와 iPad에서 배운 것을들 조만간 공식 공개 (Official launching)를 앞둔 Mac OS X 10.7 Lion에 적용하여 밀림의 왕자 사자와 같은 테크놀로지의 최강자로서 most advanced한 운영체제인 Mac OS X 10.7 Lion을 내놓게 됩니다. (June, 2011)

Apple_thumb160.jpg    MacLogo.jpg

mac_osx_107_lion_mission_control_macbook_air-550x339.jpg

1: Virtual Spaces iPad or Touch Mac

2: Apple is bringing to 'Spaces' to the iPad

The future of iOS is quietly shaping up behind the scenes at Apple, and we’ll probably get a good look at iOS 5 during WWDC 2011, but until then it’s mostly a guessing game. That is, until someone digs up some patents that show potential features in a currently unreleased product. Case in point, PatentlyApple has discovered a patent that describes Spaces (virtual desktops) in use on a “Multifunction Device” that looks a lot like an iPad.

iPad… or Touchscreen Mac?

While the patent drawing does look like an iPad, I think it’s just as possible that the multifunction device could be any touchscreen display, even for a currently unreleased touchscreen Mac. I say this because the behavior described in the patent is similar to how Spaces works in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, where you sweep between Spaces by using the trackpad. It’s also reminiscent to the multitouch gestures you can enable for iPad by using developer tools with iOS 4.3. Those gesture similarities could even hint at further merging and sharing of features between future versions of iOS and Mac OS X.

Last year, multiple patents showed up for things like a MacBook tablet, MacBook Touch, and even an iMac Touch that runs both iOS and Mac OS X.  You can see more details of the patent at PatentlyApple. Remember, not all Apple patents see the light of day as a feature or a product, but they can give us great insight into what Apple is working on.

How to setup auto shutdown of your Mac computers

Creativity | 2011. 2. 15. 01:11 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

If you often forget to shut down your Macintosh laptop, you can schedule

an automatic shut down that closes all applications on the laptop

and powers it off. The auto-shutdown mode can be set to occur every day;

on the weekends or during the week at a specific time based on the schedule

settings in your Energy Saver preferences. By automatically shutting down

your Macintosh computer when you are unable to manually do so,

you preserve the battery's health and prevent wasted electricity caused by

continuous use, according to Joe Hutsko, author of "Macs All-in-One For Dummies."

set-auto_shutdown-mode-mac-laptop-800X800.jpg

Instructions

  1. Select "System Preferences" from the "Apple" menu, located at the top of

    your Macintosh's screen.

  2. Click the "Power" or "Energy Saver" icon, and click the "Schedule" button

in the lower-right corner of the window. Click the empty box beneath

"Start up or wake" to add a check to the box. Click the arrow on the menu

to the right of the checked box, and select "Shut Down."

  3. Click the middle drop-down menu, and select "Every Day," "Weekends" or

"Weekdays" from the menu depending on your preference.

Alternatively, select a specific day of the week from the menu.

  4. Type the time you want to schedule the automatic shutdown,

and enter "AM" or "PM" in the field. Click the OK button to save

    the automatic shutdown rules.

The Mac App Store is just like the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

Great Apps for your Mac

So it’s as easy to find and download Mac apps as it is to add your favorite

magazine to iPad or a new game to iPod touch. You can browse Mac apps

by category, such as games, productivity, music, and more. Or do a quick search

for something specific. Read developer descriptions and user reviews.

Flip through screenshots. When you find an app you like, click to buy it.

The easiest installation ever

The Mac App Store revolutionizes the way applications are installed on a computer.

it happens in one step. Enter the same iTunes password you use to buy apps on

iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. And within seconds, your new app flies to your Dock,

ready to go.

Keep your apps up to date

Developers are always improving their apps. That’s why the Mac App Store keeps

track of your apps and tells you when updates are available. Update one app

at a time or all of them at once, and you’ll always have the latest versions.

new MacBook Air

Creativity | 2010. 11. 18. 03:25 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

This is new MacBook Air Apple recently launched. I saw it in the apple store at UNC.

Allegedly, It is very thin and light like a feather or an air.

But it doesn't have CD/DVD Rom and have SSD (Solid State Disk) which has the merit of

the speed of booting, but has limitations of storage capacity.
