Apple will more focus on Design and User experience for decades to come

Creativity | 2011. 4. 3. 01:50 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

On April 1, 1976, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne established a small company to sell personal computer kits hand-built by Wozniak. That company, as you probably know, was Apple Computer.

jobswithphone-360.jpg

Thirty-five years later, Apple is now the most valuable technology company in the world. Its market capitalization exceeds $317 billion, trumping longtime rival Microsoft by more than $100 billion. And Apple’s iconic products sit on the desks and in the pockets of millions of people across the world.

Most people know bits and pieces of the Apple story, but the company has a complicated history. Some of us may not know, for example, that Apple had a third co-founder, Ronald Wayne, who got cold feet and sold his 10% stake in Apple less than two weeks later. Everybody knows Steve Jobs, but they may not know Mike Markkula, one of Apple’s first angel investors and the company’s second CEO.

In the 35 years of Apple’s existence, the company has gone through hell and back. The launch of the Macintosh in 1984 and the coinciding “1984″ Super Bowl commercial remain symbols one of Apple’s highest points, but only a year later, then-CEO John Sculley forced Steve Jobs out of the company. A decade later, in 1996, the company was on the brink of destruction when it acquired NeXT and brought Steve Jobs back. In 1997, Microsoft invested $150 million in Apple to keep it afloat (something it probably now regrets), and soon after came Apple’s golden years with the iPod, iMac, MacBook, iPhone and now the iPad.

We don’t necessarily want to dwell on Apple’s past; you can visit Wikipedia if you want a lesson in Apple Inc.’s history. Instead, let’s focus on what Apple might do in the next 35 years.

What’s In Store For The Next 35 Years?

For the last 35 years, Apple has almost always been the underdog. While it languished, Microsoft flourished. In fact, Apple surpassed Microsoft in market cap for the first time last May.

For the next few decades, however, the technology titan will be incumbent. Apple has a giant target on its back, and it’s not just Microsoft taking aim. Apple also faces challenges from Google, Amazon and a plethora of mobile device manufacturers. While Apple is handily beating its competition today, the status quo could change at any moment.

And while Apple fends off Android, PCs and competing tablets, it has its eye on creating a post-PC world. Rather than compete on hardware specs, it competes on design and user experience. Its a world of mobile devices that Apple intends to dominate for decades to come.

jobs2.jpg

Leading the charge is Steve Jobs, not only the company’s CEO but also its heart and soul. While he’s currently on medical leave, he did show up for the unveiling of the iPad 2, demonstrating things aren’t as dire as previously rumored.

Still, Apple will some day have to continue its quest to redefine technology without its iconic leader, and many question whether anybody can provide the design and product vision Jobs has imparted on the company he founded 35 years ago.

Even if you aren’t a fan of Apple products, it’s tough not to be impressed with what Apple has been able to accomplish since 1976. We wonder what products it will create and challenges it will face in the next 35 years. Right now though, the sun is definitely shining down on Cupertino.

Multifunctional touch screen Mac is Apple's Next?

Creativity | 2011. 4. 1. 04:28 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

애플이 Mac OS를 기초로 하여 iOS와 iPad를 탄생시켰고 이제는 'Back to the Basic'이라는 콘셉트로 iOS와 iPad에서 배운 것을들 조만간 공식 공개 (Official launching)를 앞둔 Mac OS X 10.7 Lion에 적용하여 밀림의 왕자 사자와 같은 테크놀로지의 최강자로서 most advanced한 운영체제인 Mac OS X 10.7 Lion을 내놓게 됩니다. (June, 2011)

Apple_thumb160.jpg    MacLogo.jpg

mac_osx_107_lion_mission_control_macbook_air-550x339.jpg

1: Virtual Spaces iPad or Touch Mac

2: Apple is bringing to 'Spaces' to the iPad

The future of iOS is quietly shaping up behind the scenes at Apple, and we’ll probably get a good look at iOS 5 during WWDC 2011, but until then it’s mostly a guessing game. That is, until someone digs up some patents that show potential features in a currently unreleased product. Case in point, PatentlyApple has discovered a patent that describes Spaces (virtual desktops) in use on a “Multifunction Device” that looks a lot like an iPad.

iPad… or Touchscreen Mac?

While the patent drawing does look like an iPad, I think it’s just as possible that the multifunction device could be any touchscreen display, even for a currently unreleased touchscreen Mac. I say this because the behavior described in the patent is similar to how Spaces works in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, where you sweep between Spaces by using the trackpad. It’s also reminiscent to the multitouch gestures you can enable for iPad by using developer tools with iOS 4.3. Those gesture similarities could even hint at further merging and sharing of features between future versions of iOS and Mac OS X.

Last year, multiple patents showed up for things like a MacBook tablet, MacBook Touch, and even an iMac Touch that runs both iOS and Mac OS X.  You can see more details of the patent at PatentlyApple. Remember, not all Apple patents see the light of day as a feature or a product, but they can give us great insight into what Apple is working on.

This video shows how different Galaxy Tab 10.1v and iPad2 are from each other by comparing a few main features of them.

galaxy_tab10121.jpg  reviews-of-apple-ipad-2.jpg

This video said that Galaxy Tab 10.1v has some advantages on a better web browsing experience with fully supported flash movies and a horizontal camera view with a nice grip that iPad2 is lacking.

They also said that Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v has a great widget inferface, comparing with iPad2.

6.15.48.png

On the other hand, they point out that iPad2 has a better battery life comparing with Galaxy Tab 10.1v and also has a great app store.

but it still has a lack of supporting flash movies.

Take a look at this video and have your own thoughts about Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v and Apple iPad2.

Happy Birthday to Mac OSX 10 years old

Creativity | 2011. 3. 24. 19:48 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

Believe it or not, Mac OS X is celebrating it’s birthday and turns 10 years old today. First released to the public on March 24, 2001, Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah was a huge conceptual leap forward for the Mac platform. Unfortunately the first OS X iteration was painfully slow and largely unusable due to performance issues, and these troubles kept most Mac users on Mac OS 9 until 10.1 was released which sped things up dramatically. Things rapidly evolved from there and the rest is obviously history.

mac-os-x-10-years.jpg

This is what the first release of Mac OS X 10 Cheetah looked like, featuring elements that are still familiar today but with a candy striped Aqua interface:

mac-os-x-10-cheetah.jpg

Over the course of 10 years, what started as Mac OS X Cheetah has been refined into Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, which is scheduled for release this summer and looks a bit different:

mac-os-x-lion.jpg

Happy Birthday to Mac OS X!

Will Mac OS X be around in another 10 years? Probably not by name, but elements of it will surely live long into Apple’s future.

Apple's mobile me is going to be free from next month.

Creativity | 2011. 3. 20. 14:05 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

Over the last few weeks we’ve heard rumours that Apple would be dropping the price of MobileMe from $99 (for a 1 year subscription) to $0. We expected this to be announced during an upcoming Apple media event.

The folks at iLounge have just confirmed the rumours are true, stating that the newest version of MobileMe is slated to launch next month and they say it will be completely free. iLounge also claims that MobileMe will be getting some major changes.

Picture-211.png

To accommodate the new changes iLounge said Apple will continue to provide extended support for subscribers that have recently purchased MobileMe (for at least for 1 year). iLounge said they received the news from a trusted source who works for a major educational institution and had noticed the school’s supplier wasn’t offering the current version of MobileMe and said that Apple is encouraging new students to grab the 60 day trial.

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Preview Released

Creativity | 2011. 2. 26. 17:16 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

Apple today has released the very first developer preview version of

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Announced back in October last year,

Lion and is a significant update to OS X, bringing a lot of iOS features

that work so well on iPod touch, iPhone and iPad to the desktop OS X.

Mac-OS-X-Lion.jpg

Full press release is as follows:

Apple Releases Developer Preview of Mac OS X Lion

CUPERTINO, California—February 24, 2011—Apple® today released a developer preview of Mac OS® X Lion, which takes some of the best ideas from iPad™ and brings them back to the Mac® for the eighth major release of the world’s most advanced operating system. Lion features Mission Control, an innovative new view of everything running on your Mac; Launchpad, a new home for all your Mac apps; full screen apps that use the entire Mac display; and new Multi-Touch™ gestures. Lion also includes the Mac App Store℠, the best place to discover, install and automatically update Mac apps. The Lion preview is available to Mac Developer Program members through the Mac App Store today, and the final version of Lion will ship to customers this summer.

“The iPad has inspired a new generation of innovative features in Lion,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Developers are going to love Mission Control and Launchpad, and can now start adding great new Lion features like full screen, gestures, Versions and Auto Save to their own apps.”

mac-app-store.png

Mission Control is a powerful, entirely new feature that unifies Exposé®, Dashboard, Spaces®, and full screen apps to give you a bird’s eye view of every app and window running on your Mac. With a simple swipe, your desktop zooms out to display your open windows grouped by app, thumbnails of your full screen apps as well as your Dashboard, and allows you to instantly navigate anywhere with a click.

Launchpad makes it easier than ever to find and launch any app. With a single click, Launchpad displays all your Mac apps in a stunning full screen layout where you can launch, re-order or organize apps into folders. You can also arrange apps into multiple pages and swipe between them.

Lion brings the full screen experience that iPad users love to the Mac. With one click, your application window goes full screen, taking advantage of your Mac’s brilliant display. You can swipe from one full screen window to another and even back to your Desktop or Dashboard.

New Multi-Touch gestures and fluid animations give you a natural and intuitive way to interact with your Mac. New gestures include pinching your fingers to zoom in on a web page or image, swiping left or right to turn a page or switch between full screen apps and swiping up to enter Mission Control.

Lion also includes the Mac App Store, where you can find great new apps, buy them with your iTunes® account, and download and install them in just one step. Apps purchased from the Mac App Store are installed directly into Launchpad.

Additional features in Lion include:

  • a new version of Mail, with an elegant, widescreen layout inspired by the iPad; Conversations, which automatically groups related messages into one easy to read timeline; more powerful search; and support for Microsoft Exchange 2010;
  • AirDrop, a remarkably simple way to copy files wirelessly from one Mac to another with no setup;
  • Versions, which automatically saves successive versions of your document as you create it, and gives you an easy way to browse, edit and even revert to previous versions;
  • Resume, which conveniently brings your apps back exactly how you left them when you restart your Mac or quit and relaunch an app;
  • Auto Save, which automatically saves your documents as you work;

How to setup auto shutdown of your Mac computers

Creativity | 2011. 2. 15. 01:11 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

If you often forget to shut down your Macintosh laptop, you can schedule

an automatic shut down that closes all applications on the laptop

and powers it off. The auto-shutdown mode can be set to occur every day;

on the weekends or during the week at a specific time based on the schedule

settings in your Energy Saver preferences. By automatically shutting down

your Macintosh computer when you are unable to manually do so,

you preserve the battery's health and prevent wasted electricity caused by

continuous use, according to Joe Hutsko, author of "Macs All-in-One For Dummies."

set-auto_shutdown-mode-mac-laptop-800X800.jpg

Instructions

  1. Select "System Preferences" from the "Apple" menu, located at the top of

    your Macintosh's screen.

  2. Click the "Power" or "Energy Saver" icon, and click the "Schedule" button

in the lower-right corner of the window. Click the empty box beneath

"Start up or wake" to add a check to the box. Click the arrow on the menu

to the right of the checked box, and select "Shut Down."

  3. Click the middle drop-down menu, and select "Every Day," "Weekends" or

"Weekdays" from the menu depending on your preference.

Alternatively, select a specific day of the week from the menu.

  4. Type the time you want to schedule the automatic shutdown,

and enter "AM" or "PM" in the field. Click the OK button to save

    the automatic shutdown rules.

Apple Mac App Store open

Creativity | 2011. 1. 7. 22:11 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

세계적으로 선풍적인 인기를 끌어왔으며, 이제는 'Back to the Mac'이라는 주제로

http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store/

5.59.20.png

With the Mac App Store, getting the apps you want on your Mac has never been easier.

No more boxes, no more disks, no more time-consuming installation. Click once to

download and install any app on your Mac. The Mac App Store is now available

as a software update for any Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

apps_logo20110106.jpg

Great apps for your Mac. Right on your Mac.

The Mac App Store is just like the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

So it’s as easy to find and download Mac apps as it is to add your favorite magazine

to iPad or a new game to iPod touch. You can browse Mac apps by category,

such as games, productivity, music, and more. Or do a quick search for something

specific. Read developer descriptions and user reviews. Flip through screenshots.

When you find an app you like, click to buy it.

laptop_click_20110106.png

Install any app with ease.

The Mac App Store revolutionizes the way applications are installed on a computer —

it happens in one step. Enter the same iTunes password you use to buy music and

apps on your Mac, iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Within seconds, your new app flies

to your Dock, ready to go. So you can spend more time enjoying new apps

and less time installing them.

uptodate_screenshot_20110106.png

Keep your apps up to date.

Since developers are constantly improving their apps, the App Store for Mac keeps

track of your apps and tells you when an update is available. Update one app

at a time or all of them at once, and you’ll always have the latest version of every app.
