Mac OS X 10.7 Lion DP2 update (11A430e) released (1GB)

Creativity | 2011. 4. 17. 22:12 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

An update to Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 has been pushed out via Software Update. The download comes in at around 1GB and changes aren’t specific other than being “recommended for all users running Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2.”

What about Developer Preview 3? Alongside the DP2 update, an accompanying XCode 4.1 update includes a reference to “support Mac OS X Lion preview 3,” suggesting that Lion Developer Preview 3 may be released in the near future. XCode 4.1 preview 3 is a required update if you plan on building any software in Lion DP2.

I updated it from DP2 11A319 to DP2 11A430e.

Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 was released to developers on March 30, I found the update to be less stable and more resource hungry than Developer Preview 1, so I haven’t used it much. I’m hoping this update resolves some of the memory leaks that appeared in Developer Preview 2, although not all machines seem to be affected.

As always, backup your Mac before installing system updates. This is especially important when using a beta OS, which is also why I’ll continue recommending the dual boot method if you plan on trying out the Lion preview releases.

Lion Developer Preview 2 Update 1 Package – Direct Downloads

Here are direct download links from Apple for Dev Preview 2 Update 1 Package installers. These do NOT contain the full installation of Lion, only the update package released today. If you’re not a developer with Dev Preview 2 already installed, these won’t be of any use:

Add a Recent Items Menu to the Dock

Creativity | 2011. 4. 16. 02:18 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

You can add a Recent Items menu to the Mac OS X Dock by using a defaults write command. The default is set to “Recent Applications” but once the Dock item exists you can adjust it to feature other recent items too.

스크린샷_2011-04-15_오전_11.13.47.png

Launch the terminal and enter the following:

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add '{ "tile-data" = { "list-type" = 1; }; "tile-type" = "recents-tile"; }'

That needs to all be on a single line, so if you copy and paste it make sure the command is one string.

You will then need to kill the Dock.

killall Dock

스크린샷_2011-04-15_오전_11.13.33.png

Now right-click on the newly appeared Recent Applications Dock item and you can change it to be Recent Applications, Recent Documents, Recent Servers, Favorite Volumes, or Favorite Items.

How to use the reverse scrolling of Mac OS X Lion in Snow Leopart

Creativity | 2011. 4. 15. 00:13 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

Reverse scrolling is one of those features that came along in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion that surprised a lot of people, on a computer it doesn’t feel quite as normal as it does on a touchscreen iPad or iPhone, but once you get used to it, it’s good.

If you dual boot between 10.7 and 10.6 and you’re used to the Lion inverse scrolling, or you just prefer the way the iPad and iPhone scroll through documents and webpages, this app is what you’re looking for.

9.07.59.png

You can get Scroll Reverser free from the developer.

Click here to download Scroll Reverser 1.2

9.10.50.png

This app made the rounds a little while ago and I didn’t see a lot of use for it, but the more I use Lion the more I come back to Snow Leopard and find the scrolling differences strange to get used to. With this app, no more problems.

If you’re confused here let me explain: Mac OS X 10.7 Lion defaults to the way iOS scrolls through documents, this is the opposite behavior to Mac OS X 10.6 and before. If you hate the idea, don’t worry. Scrolling isn’t permanently inverted and the behavior can be changed through the Trackpad/Mouse System Preferences.

Show/Hide Mac Finder Sidebar/Toolbar

Creativity | 2011. 4. 14. 03:40 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

This is the typical look of Finder window in Mac OS X.

Screen_Shot_2011-04-13_at_오후_12.31.36.png

You can hide the sidebar from Mac Finder windows by hitting Command+Option+S, this command keeps the window toolbar buttons intact across making it different than than clicking on the grey pill-button.

If you’re not a fan of keyboard shortcuts, you can also select this option manually through the View menu and choosing “Hide Sidebar.” This change will affect all Mac OS X windows.

You can also show and hide toolbar of Mac Finder windows by hitting Command+Option+T.

In addition, pressing Command+1, 2, 3, or 4 makes the way to view content of disk or folder.

How to SSH in iPhone for Windows & Mac

Creativity | 2011. 4. 9. 01:03 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

This posting lets your SSH in your iPhone or iPad. See this post for Windows users.
For Mac users, see this post: http://is.gd/xOE4UL

What is SSH?

SSH stands for Secure SHell.

It is just a protocol that allows you to access your iPhone or  iPod Touch from your desktop PC or MAC and execute commands on it (thus allowing you to copy any kind of data to and from the iPhone or  iPod Touch without iTunes). It’s also used for a lot of customization things if you know what you’re doing.

You can use a program like Cyberduck on MAC or WinSCP on Windows and you can browse your iPhone or iPod Touch  like any other hard drive and explore it’s content (which can be very interesting).

In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to SSH into iPhone using WinSCP.

How to SSH into iPhone using WinSCP

Step 1

Go to Cydia from your Springboard

ssh-iphone-ipod-winscp-(6)

Step 2

Go to Sections tab at the bottom of the screen.

ssh-iphone-ipod-winscp-(7)

Step 3

Under the Sections list, choose Networking.

Start a FaceTime Call from the Web

Creativity | 2011. 4. 7. 14:23 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

facetime-iphone.jpg

A standard href anchor tag를 사용하시면 됩니다.

  • facetime://appleid
  • facetime://email@address
  • facetime://phonenumber

Automatically accept FaceTime call in Mac OS X

Screen_Shot_2011-04-06_at_오후_11.13.39.png

<English Version>

You can start a FaceTime call from any web browser in Mac OS X or iOS with a custom URL. You can use the following with a standard href anchor tag:

  • facetime://appleid
  • facetime://email@address
  • facetime://phonenumber

Once a user clicks on the properly formed FaceTime URL, FaceTime.app will launch in Mac OS X or iOS and a video call will be initiated. In both cases, you’re required to have a FaceTime compatible camera and the FaceTime app installed. If you don’t have it on the Mac, you can buy FaceTime for Mac for $1 from the Mac App Store (App Store link).

You could take this tip a step further and combine it with setting your Mac to automatically answer FaceTime calls from specified emails and numbers.

Mac OS X Lion Preview Highlights

Creativity | 2011. 4. 5. 04:50 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

Apple has recently announced the next update to the OS X operating system— OS X lion. The ideas for this update come from Apples features on iPad. Even without knowing that these ideas were geared around iPad features, it is quite apparent just looking at the layout of the new features that they are iPad inspired.

Mac_OS_X_Lion_Preview_-_Mission_Control-300x187.jpg

The first thing to talk about is the update to the track pad gestures. All of the new features are integrated with the new gestures; instead of the gestures being in application based. They now seem to be working through out the OS seamlessly. These new gestures for those who learn them and use them will really speed up their navigation. One example is swipe to navigate. This allows you, for example, to swipe two fingers and move between tabs in Safari. Another example is very iPad-like. Tap to zoom works just like iPad, tap and it will zoom custom to the content on the screen where you clicked.

trackpad2.jpg
The first new feature for Lion Os is Launch Pad. It is a utility that makes your desktop work just like the iPad home screens. You can navigate through them page by page ordering them by how often you use them. You can put your applications into folders just like the folders on the iPad, and iPhone. When you click a folder, the little black bar containing the applications in that folder is exactly the same as the open folder for iPad. The new gesture for Launchpad is a five finger pinch. You can then scroll from page to page by two fingers swiping horizontally.

lion_springboard1_20101020.jpg

The next big feature is Mission Control. Mission Control is basically an update to spaces and expose integrated into one feature when used with full screen viewing(discussed later). The gesture to bring up expose is a three finger drag up. Mission Control shows you as Apple describes it as “a birds eye view” of what is happening on your computer. All of the open applications come up, and you see all of the individual windows grouped together by application. Once you click on one of the application groups those windows come to the center and forward, (the other application window thumbnails shrinking) you then can choose which one of those windows to pick, or click outside of them to go back to all of the open windows.

overview_missioncontrol20110127.jpg
The most iPad like feature of all is full screen applications. Basically you can set up your application windows so only one is displayed. To navigate between these full screen apps you simply swipe two fingers horizontally. It is a lot like application switching with multitasking from iPad, with easier navigation. It is basically like swiping between spaces but the spaces are dedicated to a single full screen application. iMail, iCal, iPhoto, and Preview have all become applications that can be used full screen.

Apple-Mac-OS-X-Lion-Full-Screen.png
The other features that are included in this update that are not iPad based are equally as useful, and user-friendly. These updates are Resume, Auto Save, and Versions.
ini4.jpg
Resume saves everything that you are doing on your computer. If you shutdown, or restart your computer, Resume can bring back up everything that you were doing— everything saved and where you left it on the computer. Auto Save does exactly what the name suggests. You no longer need to manually save a document you are working on. (This feature only works for applications built of OS X Lion.) Also it saves the document in one place, but multiple copies called Versions. When you open a document back up after previously working and closing it, Auto Save will take you to where you were when you closed the document. Versions allow you to see the changes that you have made to a document. You can browse through them just as you do with the current Time Machine feature. They appear in a scrollable stack. There is also a lock feature that allows you to prevent unintended changes to be saved.

Shade inactive windows in Mac OS X with HazeOver

Creativity | 2011. 4. 4. 14:37 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

If you get easily distracted by things sitting around in the background, HazeOver might be for you. It’s a free utility that casts a shadow on all inactive windows, in other words, any window that isn’t in the foreground will be “hazed over.” Windows actually phase in and out of the shadow so it’s a neat effect even if you aren’t using it to minimize distraction and just want some additional eye candy on your Mac.

shade-inactive-windows-mac.jpg

If you use multiple monitors on your Mac, it will only cast shadows on your primary display, but the developer is working to fix that bug.
You can download HazeOver for free from the developers site.

Mac OS X Lion DP2에 바뀐 후지산 (Mt. Fuji) 배경 화면

Creativity | 2011. 4. 3. 11:56 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

new-mt-fuji-lion-wallpaper.jpg

<English Version>

Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 has a new version of the default Mt Fuji wallpaper.

The new picture shows some clouds in the foreground and the mountain itself has a bit less snow on it, creating less of a contrast.

As usual for Apple’s default desktops, it’s absolutely beautiful, and it makes a great desktop background.

Here they are alongside each other, the new Fuji Mountain default is on the left, and the old Lion Fuji wallpaper from the first Developer Preview is on the right:
