Mac OS X Lion DP3 released

Creativity | 2011. 4. 30. 10:52 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

Mac OS X Lion may be just around the corner. Today (4/29, Fri), Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 3 has been released.

There are not many features changed to DP3, but something about item (icon) sliding function has been changed.

DP2 (11A430e) -> DP3 (11A444d)

Animated tabs -> Normal tabs like the ones in SnowLeopard

The third developer preview release of Mac OS X Lion reverts an experimental change in how tabbed panes are drawn and animated, dropping a iOS-like slider animation to present the active tab as simply a depressed button.
Apple is retaining Lion's toned down new version of its Aqua design language, which strips much of the bright blue highlighting and bubbly interface controls such as buttons and window navigation arrows, the omission of which tend to make Mac OS X look more cohesively related to iOS.

However, Lion's new sliding pane tabs, which originally appeared to make the control function like a physically raised button that slid into place on a click (as depicted below) have been revised in Lion DP3 to work, but not look, more like the existing controls in Snow Leopard.

The overall look of the new tab controls when they appear in nestled panes is portrayed below, comparing the Speech pane in Snow Leopard with the revised appearance of Lion DP3. The graphics also depict the loss of colored highlighting throughout the interface, and flatter, round radio button controls as opposed to the "candy drop" bubbles introduced by Aqua.

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion DP2 update (11A430e) released (1GB)

Creativity | 2011. 4. 17. 22:12 | Posted by 스마트 안전보건

An update to Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 has been pushed out via Software Update. The download comes in at around 1GB and changes aren’t specific other than being “recommended for all users running Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2.”

What about Developer Preview 3? Alongside the DP2 update, an accompanying XCode 4.1 update includes a reference to “support Mac OS X Lion preview 3,” suggesting that Lion Developer Preview 3 may be released in the near future. XCode 4.1 preview 3 is a required update if you plan on building any software in Lion DP2.

I updated it from DP2 11A319 to DP2 11A430e.

Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 was released to developers on March 30, I found the update to be less stable and more resource hungry than Developer Preview 1, so I haven’t used it much. I’m hoping this update resolves some of the memory leaks that appeared in Developer Preview 2, although not all machines seem to be affected.

As always, backup your Mac before installing system updates. This is especially important when using a beta OS, which is also why I’ll continue recommending the dual boot method if you plan on trying out the Lion preview releases.

Lion Developer Preview 2 Update 1 Package – Direct Downloads

Here are direct download links from Apple for Dev Preview 2 Update 1 Package installers. These do NOT contain the full installation of Lion, only the update package released today. If you’re not a developer with Dev Preview 2 already installed, these won’t be of any use:

Apple has released Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Developer Preview 2 (Build 11A419).

The new build comes as 11A419 and presumably contains mostly bug fixes and feature refinements to an otherwise stable developer preview.

Download Mac OS X Lion Preview 2

Registered developers can access the download either through Software Update in Mac OS X Lion, through the Mac App Store, or as a standalone download through the Mac developer center.  If you skipped the first Developer Preview release and you want to try Developer Preview 2, you can dual boot and install Lion alongside 10.6 without formatting your drive. Note that you’ll want the standalone download if you choose this option.

Public Release Coming Soon

Apple announced last fall that Mac OS X Lion is scheduled for a summer release date, with WWDC 2011 looking as the most likely time for a launch. Recent rumors suggest it could even be sooner.

Full press release is as follows:

Apple Releases Developer Preview of Mac OS X Lion

CUPERTINO, California—February 24, 2011—Apple® today released a developer preview of Mac OS® X Lion, which takes some of the best ideas from iPad™ and brings them back to the Mac® for the eighth major release of the world’s most advanced operating system. Lion features Mission Control, an innovative new view of everything running on your Mac; Launchpad, a new home for all your Mac apps; full screen apps that use the entire Mac display; and new Multi-Touch™ gestures. Lion also includes the Mac App Store℠, the best place to discover, install and automatically update Mac apps. The Lion preview is available to Mac Developer Program members through the Mac App Store today, and the final version of Lion will ship to customers this summer.

“The iPad has inspired a new generation of innovative features in Lion,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Developers are going to love Mission Control and Launchpad, and can now start adding great new Lion features like full screen, gestures, Versions and Auto Save to their own apps.”

Mission Control is a powerful, entirely new feature that unifies Exposé®, Dashboard, Spaces®, and full screen apps to give you a bird’s eye view of every app and window running on your Mac. With a simple swipe, your desktop zooms out to display your open windows grouped by app, thumbnails of your full screen apps as well as your Dashboard, and allows you to instantly navigate anywhere with a click.

Launchpad makes it easier than ever to find and launch any app. With a single click, Launchpad displays all your Mac apps in a stunning full screen layout where you can launch, re-order or organize apps into folders. You can also arrange apps into multiple pages and swipe between them.

Lion brings the full screen experience that iPad users love to the Mac. With one click, your application window goes full screen, taking advantage of your Mac’s brilliant display. You can swipe from one full screen window to another and even back to your Desktop or Dashboard.

New Multi-Touch gestures and fluid animations give you a natural and intuitive way to interact with your Mac. New gestures include pinching your fingers to zoom in on a web page or image, swiping left or right to turn a page or switch between full screen apps and swiping up to enter Mission Control.

Lion also includes the Mac App Store, where you can find great new apps, buy them with your iTunes® account, and download and install them in just one step. Apps purchased from the Mac App Store are installed directly into Launchpad.

  • AirDrop, a remarkably simple way to copy files wirelessly from one Mac to another with no setup;
  • Versions, which automatically saves successive versions of your document as you create it, and gives you an easy way to browse, edit and even revert to previous versions;
  • Resume, which conveniently brings your apps back exactly how you left them when you restart your Mac or quit and relaunch an app;
  • Auto Save, which automatically saves your documents as you work;
  • the all new FileVault, that provides high performance full disk encryption for local and external drives, and the ability to wipe data from your Mac instantaneously; and
